My Latest Writing Project
A little while ago I offered to mentor a couple of young doctors and two signed up. One of them was Lilian White, MD, who is in her first year of practice. Tonight she and I each posted a collaboratively written post on our respective Substacks. They deal with a physician’s feelings when a patient decides to leave their care. I think we have stumbled on an interesting longer-term writing project from two family doctors at opposite ends of the career spectrum.

What a wonderful article! At 64 YOA, I am fortunate that I have not had a myriad of health issues yet know that the times have changed so dramatically where the BIG BUSINESS model has struck the healthcare industry. In the past, a more personal relationship could develop as doctors had more time to truly get to know their patient. Now, it seems like a “timed” track race, where doctors are required to plug in as many patients they can and move on. I spoke with a seasoned doctor who said it used to be that he would see 7-9 patients/day, now he is allotted 15 minutes and must see 20+ in a shift. More paperwork is needed for insurance and less time for the patient.
Best of luck to both of you as you balance the skills necessary to complete your rounds. Thank you for your service!!
